The seowon is a type of private educational institution where young people were taught and where memorial services for great Confucian scholars who were eminent in both learning and virtue were performed. The memorial tablets of patriotic martyrs including Chong Mong-ju in the late Koryo Dynasty, Oh Dal-je in the mid-Chosun Dynasty, Min Young-hwan and Kim Suk-jin in the late Chosun Dynasty are enshrined here to commemorate their loyalty. Confucian rites are held twice yearly, in spring (March) and in autumn (September).
