Acrobatics on a Tightrope
A vine cord of about 10 meters is tied to an oak tree at a height of about 3 meters. Then the rope clown
walks on the rope, keeping balance with a fan in one hand and a handkerchief in the other. He performs
various acts according to the rhythm. It is a professional conviviality of a folk festival, performing various
acrobatic movements in tune with the rhythm. Designated as intangible culture property No.58, acrobatics
on a tightrope dates back to the Three Kingdom Period. The clown would exercise his talent on a tight-
rope talking wittily, amusing the audience. He performed on the national holidays and festival days. Mr.
Hong Kee Chul of the Korean Folk Village twice daily presents many tricks on the tight rope in tune with
the rhythm.
