Jeju Island has more wind and rain than other inland regions. The height of the houses in this region is low and the walls are made of reeds densely bound together with ropes. As Jeju Island enjoys a nice, warm climate, the house is not equipped with the typical ondol heating system, nor does it have a kitchen range counter. Food is generally made in a cooking stove outside the house.
